Position: Library Access Services Lead

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
Description:
The Library Access Services Lead is a full-time, on-site position that is responsible for ensuring physical access to the Joan Weill Adirondack Library on the campus of Paul Smith’s College. Major responsibilities include library student worker management, building facilities, circulation, reserves, and stack maintenance. A major goal of this position is to aid students, faculty, staff, and community members in connecting to library resources, spaces, and services. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise a team of 9-12 library student workers during the fall and spring semesters, ensuring front desk coverage.
- Communicate with and schedule staffing by library student workers in evenings and weekends with student workers, with some need for after-hours communication.
- Plan and assess initiatives for library student workers during inter-semester periods.
- Manage and coordinate the daily operations of circulation, reserves, and stack maintenance.
- Implement and enforce library circulation policies, including managing overdue notifications, renewals, and holds; administration of late and replacement fees.
- Solicit, process, and manage faculty reserve materials.
- Coordinate annual inventory and shelf reading projects.
- Collaborate with Library Director to serve as a primary point of contact for building needs with facilities, campus security, and other entities.
- Manage opening and closing building procedures.
- Manage use of library room booking software for students and patrons.
- Coordinate front desk and storage room cleanout and organization project.
- Provide excellent customer service to all library patrons.
- Collaborate with library staff on signs, displays, events, and social media.
- Serve on campus staff committees as available and appropriate.
- Special projects as developed with and approved by the Library Director.
- Develop and expand knowledge of emerging trends and standards in the library field through professional development.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience managing and supervising teams in a student or other customer-facing environment.
- Customer service experience and a willingness to help.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, patrons, and the public, both in-person and remotely.
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn new skills and systems.
- Strong working knowledge of computers and technology.
- Reliable transportation.
- Time management skills.
- BA/BS in any area.
- Ability to work weekend hours: typical week running Sunday to Thursday.
- Occasional evening work, as needed to supervise and manage students.
- Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in circulation at a library.
- Experience with library circulation policy development, implementation, and reporting.
